Transporting Art
By Jeannine Patané • September 2005

Jeannine attends the 14th Good Guys East Coast Nationals in Rhinebeck, New York and looks at show car design.

Just one part of a car can have a wide variety of design choices, and to have a cohesive style or a strong concept, thought has to go into each car part. It’s like a puzzle; each part looked at, some pieces tried, and eventually the picture comes with enough of the pieces connected.

The surfer that owns this green Ford put extra thought into the vehicle. The car is decorated with era-related props and window decals as if it was for a movie set or retail display.

Like homes, custom-built cars reflect what we see in our world. Appreciation is given to well-crafted design, and the person who labored over the design demonstrates the love and attention that they put into their work.

With multiple cars, each vehicle becomes part of the bigger art picture.

It’s not all about the hood ornament, but sometimes this one element acts as the benchmark for the entire car's design.
