A Yacht Workout: jumping rope
By Jeannine Patané • 1 May 2007

Flexibility and strength are used day-to-day when working on yachts, however, cardiovascular exercise is negligible. Larger mega yachts can accommodate exercise equipment, but if the boat you’re on is not equipped with such amenities, other solutions can be found.
Jumping rope has proven to be a great way to keep my cardio fitness on the yacht. Minimum space is required—approximately 4 x 8 feet with no overhead. I found the transom area perfect for this. We also had snap lock mats on board, which protect the deck and add cushioning to jumping’s impact.
Personal gear considered would be a quality rubber or leather rope and appropriate footwear.

Sweating in Acapulco. Leather and rubber ropes are better quality, and I use a 1 lb speed rope for my workout.

Mats are great to protect the deck.
