First Aid on the Job: butterfly closures, sandpaper

It’s inevitable—injuries will happen on the job. As much as we’d like to avoid any injury, our frustrations and impatience can get the best of us. This forcefulness causes injury.
When we get minor injuries, its good to know how to handle our own repair work. One item in a first aid kit that is ideal to have is butterfly closures. Unless the wound is so severe and deep that it requires stitches, most small gouges or lacerations can be cleaned up and held together with these closures.
Another recent addition to my first aid kit is wet/dry 400 grit sandpaper. It proved itself when a framing hammer found its way to my mouth, thus facilitating a chipped tooth and fat upper & lower lip. The superficial chip was sharp enough for reshaping. I rolled a small piece of sandpaper in a size just larger than a toothpick and sanded down the tooth until the sharpness disappeared.
Most of the time injury happens when we’re forcing something and we’re frustrated. If we can work patiently and peacefully, we are conscience of our work, thus reducing injury.

Butterfly closures hold together a self-inflicted wound from a screwdriver that was used improperly for the task at hand.

Minor dental work can be done in-house with patience and super fine sandpaper.
